ss_blog_claim=454f1352fd587751c30eddcb7fa22d13 My Absent Mind: Men, you don't want to read!

Trust me guys, you really don't. This is definitely a T.M.I. post that only women would understand! You have been warned!

So, 3 1/2 months after my doctor gave me the forms I have finally called to book an ultrasound, the earliest appointment I could get is September 15th. After a weekend from hell I had to get it booked and find out what's wrong. From Saturday morning until Sunday afternoon I went through a Super tampon and Overnight pad every hour. I've been having problems with heaviness for about 4 or 5 years now, but this was definitely the worst. I hardly slept all weekend because of such bad cramping and even if the cramping would subside thanks to pain killers the doctor gave me and heating pads(I would have to use one on the front and one on the back), I would still wake up every hour because I could feel it coming.

So at least I have taken the first step by booking the appointment and see it can provide any answers. It seems to only get worse all the time, and after this weekend I really don't want to experience worse.

Has anyone else gone through this? What results did you end up with? What did you have done? I know there's a variety of treatment options depending on what it ends up being. I don't plan on having more kids so I'm ok with a treatment that would affect chances of getting pregnant, but at the same time unless it's absolutely essential I don't really want to have surgery.

I hope you find some answers. You think they would take it more seriously - I remember hearing if you bleed as much as you said - that you should go to the ER. The only thing I can think of is fibroids. Did they mention that at all? I know that those can cause heavy bleeding. Good luck, let us know what you find out.

your scaring the crap out of me. I you sure your not pregnant and having a tubal pregnancy... If it is just bleeding my aunt had your problem and they put a balloon inside of her and it cartarized everything. She is doing well now and didn't have to have surgery.. I hope this goes well for you. I want to hear results from the ultrasound when you have it.. I am interested. Take Care

Are you talking about that surgery that basically roto-routers your insides so your periods are much, much lighter?

I considered that. I went through the testing to find out that I am "normal and healthy" I just have really heavy periods.

My doc said I was a good candidate for that surgery, but I haven't done it. It seems sort of invasive and I can just change my tampon every two hours and wear a panty liner.

I also do *not* have pain with my period. It's just heavy and messy.

Have you looked into one of the treatments that would basically sear the inside of your uterus? They usually use something like a balloon that is inflated with super-hot water once it is inserted.

Sue- fibroids is one of the things the doctor is having them check for.

Callie Ann- lol, no, definitely not pregnant. This has been going on for 4 or 5 years, this time was definitely the worst it's been, but not by a lot. I believe the balloon thing is called Ablation, I have heard a lot about it and after the results are back it is something I would like to find out if it's an option, everyone who's had it done seems to be very glad they did and it either got rid of or drastically reduced the issues.

Cardiogirl- well, the surgery I really don't want to have is a hysterectomy, from some of what I've read up on that is what some have, but I'm hoping I won't have to do that. A tampon alone will only work for me after the first couple of days, it slows down for me then, but the first couple of days a tampon alone I can soak through in about 1/2 an hour to 45 minutes...makes it so hard to leave the house. I wish I had no pain, some months I can't even walk upright because of the pain.

Wendy- yes, Ablation I believe it's called, that is what I would like to discuss with my doctor after my u/s and I see if it shows anything.

Yes, I will update after I see my doctor after the u/s. I should have got my butt in gear and made the appointment sooner, I know how long you have to wait for appointments for things around here, that was stupid on my part, but at least I finally made it, now I just have to wait.

With all the pain you are having, it sounds more like fibroids than anything else. Another possibility is endometrial hyperplasia. First your periods get heavier, and over time, you just start bleeding all the time. But you don't sound like you are doing that. I'm leaning towards fibroids. My sister and my friend both had *huge* fibroids, and they had a lot of pain like you do. I on the other hand had hyperplasia, which didn't have pain so much.

We all ended up having hysterectomies, but we are all in our 40s, so didn't care about having more kids. There are a other options, though, with fibroids if you don't want to have a hysterectomy. For hyperplasia, usually a hysterectomy is warranted because it's considered precancerous. However, you don't have to have a complete hysterectomy. You can leave the ovaries and avoid many of the post-hysterectomy problems.

Hope the ultrasound goes well and they can help you with something. I bled like that from the day I started menstruating, and I know how horrible it is.

I have not had this happen. I hope everything is okay. I too want to know the results. That would suck to have to go through that every month!!!

Good luck with this!

Oh, gosh I feel for you! I sure hope they figure out how to fix it soon. That's just horrible to have to go through something like that every month.

Take it as easy as possible, and maybe do something horrifically girly when you're feeling a bit better? Just to pamper yourself because goodness knows you deserve it after going through that!

Best of luck with the doctors!

Good luck and I hope that it is nothing serious. I haven't had problems myself, but a friend of mine had to have cysts removed, and my mom had to have a hysterectomy when she was barely 26, just a few months after my brother was born. I understand wanting to stay away from that option if at all possible; my mom now has a problem with her bladder dropping. The doctors said it's because there's nothing helping to hold it up... I guess?

I was having a similar problem and it turned out to be endometriosis. Two years ago I had a laparoscopy to burn off the endo tissue and that helped a lot (they also scraped my uterus to remove any heavy lining that might have built up too at the same time and the whole procedure wasn't that bad - really compared to all the pain and bleeding it's not that bad - honest!), but it came back fairly quickly and early this year my periods just got so bad between the heavy bleeding and pain that made me want to do a self hysterectomy that I spoke with my doctor about it and she suggested we try Depo Provera injections (1 every three months).

I started with Depo in April and other than some slight break thru bleeding I haven't had any periods and NO pain! (Well I also have Crohn's disease so I still have abdominal pain but it's different than period cramps)

I guess you'll have your ultrasound and then depending upon what they see or don't see you might end up being scheduled for a laparoscopy so that they can explore your pelvic region to possibly remove fibroids, cysts or burn of endometriosis tissue. I suppose there could be other causes but those are the most common causes of heavy menstrual bleeding and cramping that I can think of at this time.

Did your doctor do any blood work? Perhaps some of your hormones are out of whack? Also, with heavy bleeding like that you've got to wonder if your iron levels might be getting low.

I hope that you feel better soon and that this doesn't turn out to be anything extremely serious.

I am actually thinking if we have the same problem while reading your post. I'm not into bleeding though, more on cramping including my left leg. Is it something to do with your ovary, if i may ask?

i hope it's nothing serious, i've heard of some people who really bleed heavily, and can't move much because of that.

good luck, i'll pray for you ;)

jodith- I agree, from what I have read online I think there's a pretty good chance it's fibroids. I'm definitely not bleeding all the time, in fact I'm very irregular and it's not uncommon for me to skip a period, I don't skip as many as I once did(at one time only got about 4 periods a year), but I do still skip 2 or 3 a year. I don't plan on more kids either, hubby was going to go get "fixed" in the next couple of years, but it's the surgery part of a hysterectomy that scares me, lol, I'm a wimp.

toni- thank you, yeah, it totally sucks, and because I'm irregular it's hard to make plans because I don't know when it will show up.

catatonickid- lol, pamper, what's that? hehe

stefanie- wow, I've never heard of a problem like that from a hysterectomy! eek, that's scary.

tricia- I did think endometriosis some time ago but didn't seem to have all the main symptoms, I can't even remember what they symptoms were right now. What is a self hysterectomy? Never heard of that before. I'm not familiar with the injections, but I know a lot of things like that I try to stay away from because they seem like they would just make some of my other issues worse. The doctor does say based on my depression and anxiety and a variety of other things that my hormones are definitely a little out of whack. Surprisingly my iron levels came back normal, I'm still shocked about that.

lynn- I really don't know what it is yet, hopefully something will turn up on the u/s and I can find out.

liza- yes, it's definitely hard to move, if I'm sitting and I get up I have to make a mad dash for the bathroom. It's painful, uncomfortable and just plain gross lol.
